In honor of its 50th anniversary and the opening of its John Johansen- designed building, the Museum is dedicating a better part of the year’s exhibit space and programming to architecture.
In these five decades, the stunning advances in design, energy conservation, and sustainability have become more accessible to the public, though not necessarily familiar. Discovery will be collaborating with several leading architecture firms to create a 4-month exhibit that features the art, science and energy-use advances that make architecture such an amazing field today. There will be a corresponding Saturday morning lecture series plus 2 speed-dating events to help the public meet, greet, and vet the architect and contractor for their own home improvement project. Please check the web site for dates and times. Running along with this exhibit until September 2 is "Your House, My House" which teaches how homes and houses around the world look and how they’re the same and/or different. Each building type explores the various materials used and why they work in the particular climate and environment in which they are found. Stay in touch via the web site for other complementary and supporting events will develop throughout the year.
