Talk explores many sides of Barnum. Known to the world as the ‘Great American Showman,' Barnum did more than create curiosities, he embraced the dream of a democratic nation and inspired American society to reach beyond expectations.
Presented by Kathy Maher, Executive Director/Curator the talk explores the many sides of Barnum and brings his spirit back to life for the first time since June 2010 when the historic museum was hit by a tornado.
The name alone conjures ideas of imagination and extravagance. Known to most of the world as the ‘Great American Showman,' Barnum did more than create shows of curiosities and oddities. P. T. Barnum embraced the dream of a truly democratic nation, and in doing so, inspired a new American society to reach beyond the limits of ordinary expectations and to see the world as a place of opportunity and wonder.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch to the lecture, which will be held in the People’s United Bank Gallery, connected at the back of the museum’s historic structure. The program will run again on Oct. 23.
